Preparing for Your Surgery with Dr. Schoch
Thank you for trusting us with your surgical care. We are committed to optimizing your experience with a shared partnership between you and our team, with the goal of improving your function and quality of life. Below is a guide with key information to help you prepare for your procedure and recovery.
- After surgery, you may be in a sling for up to six weeks. Most patients find it more comfortable to sleep in an upright position, gradually laying down as the recovery progresses. We recommend using a recliner or several pillows behind your back in bed. Additionally pillows to support your arm are helpful. We advise this be set up before your surgery.
- You will need to obtain over the counter medications prior to surgery. We recommend generic forms of Tylenol (acetaminophen), a stool softener (Mirilax, Colace, or Senna), chlorhexadine soap, and 5% benzoly peroxide (acne cream). If you cannot find 5%, please purchase 2.5% and NOT the 10% option.
- Application of benzoyl peroxide will begin 3 days before surgery. See instructions here.
